How to Get over a
Breakup
Here’s the bad news: Getting over a breakup is never easy.
Even when a relationship was not the best, it still hurts when two people separate. Trying to avoid the pain
altogether is a waste of time. Tips about how to get over a breakup cannot realistically include ways to
completely avoid the pain of a failed relationship.
That being said, how to get over a breakup advice CAN include ways to make the pain more manageable and help you
to be able to move on more quickly.
I know, because I was there. Jane broke up with me after three years, and I was heartbroken, but more about my
story in a bit. First, here are some tips on how to get over a breakup and move on.
Feel What You Feel
Some people think that tips about how to get over a breakup should include ways to avoid pain. As mentioned
above, this isn’t possible. Instead, allow yourself to feel whatever emotions come. Know that it won’t last
forever.

Make a Clean Break
Some people try to “just be friends” or some other thing that is, essentially, a way to keep the other person in
your life. This is a bad idea. If you want to be friends down the road you can, but when the breakup is new, and
the pain still raw, it is best to make a clean break.
This means no phone calls, no texts and no checking their Facebook page. It will be harder to move on if you’re
still keeping a connection with your ex.
Don’t Ask What You Don’t Want to Know
Another common mistake is to ask questions for which you really do not want the answer. Don’t ask if they are
dating someone. This is the key how to get over a breakup. Don’t ask if they ever really loved you. Don’t ask
anything that 1) doesn’t matter and 2) might have an answer that could make your pain even worse.
Stay Busy
Keeping occupied is one of the best tips for how to get over a break up. When you stay busy, rather than sitting
around and stewing about the breakup, you will be surprised at how much more quickly you will start to feel
better.
Is it Really Over? Does it Have to Be?
